e-mail woes

So apparently my vernard@venger.net email address is "over quota". This is interesting because as far as i can tell, I don't have quotas on that machine. E-mail accoutns are one of the features I get for being hosted by Comtrends which is owned and managed by a friend of mine, [livejournal.com profile] rhjatl. I'm not quite sure what is going on but this is very very annoying. I had issues earlier trying to setup a mailing list on the server (it just flat out wouldn't work despite having done one before that is working).

I was hoping to be able to keep my web site hosting for my venger.net domain the same as my email system but I can't deal with stuff not working.

Can anybody tell me of a decent imap based mail service (free or otherwise) that they can recoommend? I need something that will let me have imap folders with a quota of at least 1GB and up to 3GB. I don't mind paying as long as it gives me what I need. And before you say it, I already have a GMail account. Its POP only so it doesn't mea my needs.

For just plain old IMAP service I can't say enough good things about Fastmail (http://www.fastmail.fm). The freebie service requires you to use webmail or a third-party SMTP host (not them) to send; a one-time payment of $14.95 gets you SMTP access for life; you have to pay $40 a year to get the 2GB level. (This is what I have.) That level of service lets you host your own domain there (email and metered-bandwidth web space) and do a lot of other stuff; they even let you have access to the Seive mail filter pointed at your inbox, so you can do a lot of Procmail-type stuff...

There are no ads, save a trailer on the freebie service; heck, there aren't any graphics at all on the website itself. The IMAP stuff is all SSL-enabled for us tinfoil hats, and they can go and grab stuff from other POP and IMAP sites for you (the IMAP sync is a one-shot; you can set up POP accounts to sync on a schedule, so you could instead of forwarding your gmail *to* there use Fastmail to pull *from* there...)

It's just Very Cool.

Full disclosure: If you sign up and reference me (contact me directly for details) I get a teeny cut of your initial sign-up. But it ain't much, not so's I'd pimp a bad product.

Oh. They use SpamAssassin with Bayesian feedback enabled (and integrated into the webmail client). It works... fairly well. Not as well as my private-tweaked setup does, but it traps most stuff.

You don't have mail quotas- I've got you set up to have whatever you need. What's going on?

Says that my mail address "vernard@venger.net" is over quota. Since I never set any quotas and didn't even think I *could* set quotas, I was quite shocked. I've included a copy of the mail bounce below.

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at server0.comtrends.net.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

Hrm. I swear I set your quota to a gig when I set up your account, but it was set to the default 20m limit. I think that might have gotten reset a while ago when I was moving some accounts around. I removed your quota, and I've marked your account settings in the database so they won't get overwritten the next time I do an account migration. Sorry 'bout that!

Ah! SEe that is what I get for assuming that I screwed up versus someone else :-)

Thanks a bunch. I much prefer not having to move. I just thought I'd outgrown my happy pond.
