Alive and well
Mar. 16th, 2008 01:22 amI am alive and well. I apologize for not thinking to notify folks that I am alive and well. Mainly because in my mind, I was not in any danger. I know that sounds weird.
I've been doinng weather modelling for a long time now. I started doing it for my PhD minor. I routinely monitor Open Source Weather Sources and I even occasionally run my own simulations on my own personal baby cluster in my basement. But what this means is that most of the forecasts that I saw didn't have my area of the world getting hit hard. Bad, yes. But not hard. now mind you, tornados are more fickle than the mythically stereotypical women so plus or minus 10 miles is reasonable. So I *should* have been worried. But I wasn't. Although this didn't prevent me from spending the evening working in my basement instead of upstairs duing the storm. And all it took was one brownout for me to turn off all the servers and resort to my laptop. I figured the Cable Modem and Wireless Router were a reasonable risk to keep plugged in.
In any event, the worst is over and all I have to show for it is a ton of rotten and not so rotten tree limbs in my back yard and one of the neightbors garbage cans on my roof. Yeah, my roof. No biggie. no damage and I retreived it easily..
I'll try to keep more in touch the next time we have tornados in town :-)
