So I've been a bit under the weather since Monday. Some kind of borderline sinus infection. Really annoying but at least it ain't the flu.

Anyway, I heard there was a Halloween costume contest at Clayton and they had a faculty category. Since it was looking like I wasn't going to be healthy enough to make it to

thegray's Halloween Bash, I figured I'd dress up for this one. I had to go to campus anyway to teach class. So I dig around for the bits and pieces of my older costumes and manage to cobble together a Privateer costume. For those less informed, a privateer is a Pirate sponsored by a government of some sort.

So I stumble onto campus and do my thing. My morning class got a kick out of it. one particular student who apparently is a fan of the web comic SinFest was quoting Slick's line of "Arr!! Me likes the booty". *facepalm*

Anyway, so I wander down at Noon and register for the competition. And there are a few really good costume there. THere is the "bride NOT to be" which was a curvy hispanic student in a white wedding gown with blood on her face and all down her front. There was a person attempting to be a pirate but succeeding instead in being a colonial gentleman. After all, no self respecting pirate would be caught wearing ruffles on the front of their shirt. Well, maybe a female pirate. Or a gay male pirate.

So we do the little registration pictures and such. I'll have to get a copy of it as I have my emerald curved dagger in my teeth in traditional pirate style. They then do the judging and announce the winners. Turns out that Staff and Faculty are in separate categories and I'm the only Faculty member there so I got a win by default. However, several folks said I had one of the top 3 costumes in just looks. 1st place prize was a 256MB USB2.0 Thumbdrive. Not too shabyy.

I'm quite amused by this. It made my day. And the students in my classes got a real kick out of it the rest of the day/evening as well.
