Zac Brown Band is a great band. I had the privilege of hearing them at Smith's Olde Bar before they made it big. I can honestly say that success has not changed them.

Zac Brown is one audacious s.o.b.... who happens to have the skills to back it up. :) Normally, when you're up for Best New Artist, and you get invited to perform at the Country Music Awards, you come out and you do your hot new single, and go ga-ga when the crowd goes wild (Taylor Swift).

Zac Brown did NOT come out and do "Chicken Fried." He and the boys came out and did "The Devil Went Down To Georgia," with Charlie right there just a few rows back of the stage.

And freakin' OWNED it.

And when Charlie got up along with everybody else to give them a Standing O? They were all like, "Yeah, we meant to do that. :)"

And the whole thing with country music in general is, it's not fantasy, it's not "we're so perfect" nor is it "baby come back"... it's real. It's about crying, and then picking up and going on... about how the happily ever after ain't always so happily or so ever after, and about what you do about it when you get to that point. Zac just happens to be one of the best in the biz right now.

And, FWIW? I feel your pain, dude. I've got a goodly handful of good friends, some of'em closer than others... a few of them have put a smile in my inbox this morning, even... but no one to wake up next to on a Monday morning and commiserate another weekend's demise.
