Yet another thing I didn't know
Nov. 3rd, 2005 03:38 pmStonehenge not 100% authentic.
Its common practice to spend a lot of effort to restore art pieces and such. and its gotten much harder to do now that the concept of art has gotten much more creative and flexible (i.e. feces is a royal pain in the ass to preserve as it tends to dry up and decay as mother nature intended).
miper who has a degree in art and multiple degrees in Chemistry can give us tons of information on that process if you are curious (Please sis?).
The thing that really stands out on this is that there seemed to be so much effort spent to hide the fact that Stonehenge has been “restored”. Even worse is the fact that the “restoration” is probably not even close to being authentic. Its what we “think” it should have looked like versus what we “know” it to be like. the fact that archaeologists resisted the restoration casts even more doubt on whether it was more fabrication than restoration.
In any event, its still a magnificent site and holds much significance to many people for both historical and religious reasons. Its a shame that the truth has been hidden so well.
Anyone seen it first hand?

I'll bite.
Nov. 3rd, 2005 05:16 pmIf you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don’t speak often or have never met in person, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want, either good or bad. (anonymous comments are allowed as well)
When you’re finished, post this in your journal and see what people remember about you.
Normally I only do memes that are throwaway. They are amusing and cute but I won’t give a damn about them later in life. This one however has potential to be quite lasting. So what i wnat you to do is to post the most powerful memory you have about me (i.e. the one that comes to mind first). Hell the memories don’t even have to be correct (since memories rarely are). Just thought it was a neat meme.

So what the hell is a "meme" anyway?
Nov. 3rd, 2005 05:24 pmWikipedia thinks that it is this.
And its pronounced more like “meem” than “me-me” :-)
And not you know, etc etc, etc
