That has yet to be determined. But at least I am on the team. You can find me listed amongst the Server Aministration Team here. If you prefer to go directly the horror that is my mug shot then you can get there here.

So wednesday night I attend a baseball game with a colleage of mine at Clayton State that is celebrating his birthday. Since technically we are all still students (i.e. still have our students IDs) we can get the tickets at some absurdly cheap price like $4 each. Turner Stadium is a nice stadium as long as you don't by anything there. Paying $5 for a hot dog is just not a sane price no matter what they tell you. I figure when your prices are higher than a movie theater than you have reached the limits of sanity. so we got the brilliant idea of each of us attending would just bring one of the traditional baseball foodstuffs and we would save ourselves some money. It was a great idea and it worked masterfully. The standbys of hotdogs, peanuts, cracker jacks, and pretzels were there. Plus plenty of water and coca-cola. And even diet drinks for those that were feeling all health minded.

The game sucked though. The Bravers were playing the Angels and pretty much from the first inning, it was the Angels game. I think the Braves managed to get back in the game around the 3rd inning and it was tied 4/4. But later the Angels rallied and brought in 3 runs and from then out it was just embarrasing. After the 7th inning it felt like the Braves had given up. The majority of the fans certainly did. At least a quarter of the stands emptied out when the Angels scored the 3 runs making it 7/4. Another quarter bailed when it was the 8th inning and the Angels scored again. A few die hard fans stayed for the end (including my group). Just seems kinda bad to spend all that effort to come out and then want to leave early. Yeah the Braves lost. But if you can't take the losing with the winning then why bother at all. I admit that i'm not a big fan of baseball but the lack of enthusiasm or at least loyalty to the team you came to watch seemed a bit pathetic. But then again, I'm not a loyal fan of any particular sports team including my own beloved Yellowjackets. So i guess I just don't get it on either side of the fence.

A few memorable moments from the event:

One of the guys there went to wash his hands after eating. Once he got back, he said his hands smelled like Nachos. "The really bad thing about that is that I didn't eat any nachos yesterday or today."
Things that make you go "Hmmmmm". And then go wash your hands again at a different restroom.

They kept playing the opening drum hits from the song "Centerfield" being sung by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Its the classic baseball song that starts out:

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone - the sun came out today!
We're born again, there's new grass on the field.
A-roundin' third, and headed for home, it's a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way I feel.

Oh, put me in, Coach - I'm ready to play today;
Put me in, Coach - I'm ready to play today;
Look at me, I can be Centerfield.

Many folks call the song "Put me in Coach" instead of "Centerfield". Because that is the line that is lamented by the singer. I was annoyed because they played the opening to it at least a half dozen times but never actually payed any part of the song. A good friend of mine, Idris, was present and he had never heard the song. I thought that was pure blasphemy so I have endeavored to find a copy for him so he can be properly indoctrinated into baseball tradition.

We made jokes about sitting in the cheap seats. One of the guys there remarked that the best thing about being in the cheap seats is that you can spread out and get some "man distance" between each other. And sure enough, we noticed that every person had at least one seat between them and the next guy. Apparently men don't like to sit that close together unless they are forced on pain of death. Or they get really good seats.

During plays and such, they would point the camera at various fans around the stadium and show what the were doing. At one point, they focus on the drummer guy that is supposedly doing the Braves "Tomahawk Chop" beat on the large drum near the entrance. Unfortunately he was off by a few beats. One of the people in front of me said "His rhythimg is off. Its so off its messing *me* up. " This was a lot funnier at the time because we had just finished making the stereotypicall joke about "White folks having no rhythm." It was even funnier because a White guy made the joke. Oh yeah, the guy doing the drumming was a Black guy. Much laughter ensued.

All in all a good time was had. And I got to play hookie from teaching class to do it. The students didnt mind I'm sure and my boss was present with me so I doubt I'll get in trouble for doing it :-)

Only someone that has worked on a PhD will truely understand how funny and scary this is.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Ok, Livejournal is one of the most powerful communications mechanisms out there on the Internet. I've met tons of new folks through it and many folks have had their entire lives completely transformed due to it.

Its time to see if we can work that magic work again.

I'm currently looking for an entry level information technology job for an acquaintaince of mine. The person is extremely familiar with Windows networking and desktop applications but is by no means an expert. Has some exposure to Networking with both Windows, CISCO and Linux. The person is looking for an entry level position. Pay is not an issue at all. Seriously, this is not about the money. This is about getting a job in the I.T. field where skills can be be honed and acquired. The only way to get experience is to actually work. Thus, the need for the job. It can be part time or full time. Full time is obviously preferred.

So put your feelers out there. If you know anyone with a position for desktop support, tech support, etc then let me know so I can pass the info along.

Thanks folks. Lets see if this "six degrees of knowledge" thing can work some magic.
