Hate work. I really don't want to be a system administrator. I don't have the personality for it. Time to seriously start looking for other employment.

Doctor says body is okie dokie. Still losing weight steadily. And I should be off all my meds in another year. Which is always good. At least the ones I am on now are completely paid for by insurance.

Need to get a better grip on my finances. I have enough money. I am just not spending it as wisely as I should. probably should get a job that pays more money though. I'm seriously underpaid right now.

The charm of playing house-husband is gone. Just want to be back myself again.

Got a bazillion weddings to attend as usual this year. I think the count is up 5. But so far no more than two of them are in any one month. None of that silly 5 in 8 weeks crap like last year.

Yeah, you're way to personable for a sysadmin. The ones I know out here suffer from neuroses incompatibility with most of society.

Yay on the health front!

What type of job do you want to get?

I think its users that drive sysadmins to be so nasty. The nicer the users, the nicer the sysadmins.

I'm looking for more of a Systems Analyst position: Problem solving in a niche that is not related to generic system maintenance. The whole reason I chose to work in academia is to do something *academic*. If I'm going to do work like this, I should go back to Corporate and at least get the corporate salary.

That's a good plan. Of course sys admins never want to solve the problem of pushy users.;-)

It sounds like academia can suck because there is a lack of structure, and one is made to obey the whims of absent-minded intellectuals.

Yes, there are advantages to working corporate. I will think good thoughts for your job hunt!

I don't know. I do think a large chunk of users being problems is that nerds who are predisposed toward thinking like the machine aren't very good at training their users.

I've been making a point to keep my users well-trained, even if it's to ensure they know that I'm not going to help them with frivolous crap and that if they come to me at the 11th hour with something they've known about for a month I'm going to laugh at them. :)

As such, they're usually pretty good about this sort of thing, and therefore when they do come to me at the 11th hour, I know the shit hit the fan and I actually do need to drop everything.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

As long as they are compatible with your coworkers, not at all.

My brother Vincent is staying with me while he is separated from his wife. While he has been here, I have been doing most of the cleaning, all of the cooking, going throw the mail, driving him to work, etc. And the cat Lieutenant has been acting awfully like a needy child too.

So, yeah, househusband :-)

yeah, you're just not enough of an "evil bastard" to be a sysadmin.

Oh yeah, I need your recipe for the Painkillers drink you made for me!

You're a nerd. Check out Jobfox and see if it is truly a better passive job seeker board. I've taken myself off Careerbuilder and Dice because I get too much email spam and telephone solicitations from companies posing as recruiters. Two of their key selling points to recruiters and hiring companies is that their job matching/search system uses (insert fancy words) algorithms to match skillsets to job descriptions and their unique spin on a candidate profile that includes a visual mind map of a person's job history.
