No, really. Well that and the sexy women that are often displayed in all their glory.

I got a flyer in the mail that says that I can subscribe to Playboy Magazine for only $1 an issue. Supposedly a great discount since its about $5 an issue on the newsstand.

A long time ago there actually used to be some written content worth mentioning in Playboy to go along with the nekkid women. I was wondering if that is still the case or has it degenerated to the status of things like Penthouse, OUI, etc.

After all, finding naked women is easy. hell it comes in my email box daily unasked for. But getting quality writing delivered is a whole 'nother story...

Anyone out there care to comment?

I like the articles too! Like the one about Tracy, who is 19 and a sophomore majoring in psychology at USC and likes volleyball, race cars and chocolate.

The last few times I bought it the articles were pretty good and the fiction was great...

Just my $.02.

Haven't read Playboy in ages... Come to think of it, it may have been as long as 8 years or so since I last looked at one. Hustler used to put out a mag called "Rage" for under a year that was actually pretty decent and had well written articles... it was like Maxim lite with a hardcore edge (it was right at the time that Hustler flung the hardcore photography door back open-- in fact, I'm pretty damn certain Rage may have slipped it in before it went back into Hustler). Despite having two roommates who worked at the local porn store at the time, that was the only adult mag I ever picked up with any regularity.

Lack of sleep has caused babble on my part, so I'll shut up now. Good luck on your decision-making process.

The articles aren't as good as they use to be....but it's still worth a look.

And the women still are worth a dollar a month.

Yes. Good articles, good columns, good cartoons, good fiction, beautiful women. The new "flashy" design isn't something I'm too fond of, but the content is still excellent.

$1 an issue is a steal.

cheers,
Phil

I about wet my pants when I saw your icon. Loved Memento, loved Finding Nemo, never made the connection.

Remeber Sammy Jankis! Memento Dory ... or was that Mori....

I say "Memento Dory" when referring to it. :)

I SO wish I had thought of it first (like you, I love both films but never made the connection until I saw the icon), but the talented [livejournal.com profile] kevinpease is the genius behind it (concept and execution both). As per him, feel free to steal it if you like.

cheers,
Phil

It's sad to me that the institution of Playboy has fallen so low. Hef once built an iconic empire, and these days it reads like Cosmo. And I ought to know.

Read FHM magazine. It's a cheap subscription too, the models are nowhere near as airbrushed and you're far more likely to find articles you'll enjoy reading.

I don't normally read Playboy, but they had a pretty good article about Alexander Shulgin a few months ago.
