It might seem very silly but instead of coughing/sneezing into your hands, you need to cough into your sleeve.

The Center for Disease Control thinks that if we could change the default behavior, we could drastically cut down the spread of things like the flu.

Not sure how practical it is with sneezes but it still seems like a good thing for a cough.

I may cough into my hand, but I use that waterless handwash germkiller stuff immediately.

I get sick too easily to not use that and wash my hands the regular way as much as possible.

Good, but not enough

The germ killer stuff is good, b/c its alcohol based. It is good for let's say the dry cough germs, but it does leave behind the big bad ones. The problem with a cough is that it is your body's way of getting liquids up from your bronchial tubes. The alcohol doesn't kill the organisms found in the droplets. ie. phlegm and snot. So even if you use them, wash your hands as soon as you possibly can. Sorry this was so long but my degree is in Microbiology.

Getting more people sick helps the Darwinian process. We should be sneezing on each other as much as possible if we want to produce better humans.

While looking pretty stupid doing it, when in public I always pull the collar of the front part of my shirt at and either cough or sneeze into it. Sneezing or coughing into your hand(s) is the worst thing to do unless your next step is to wash them without touching anything else.

[livejournal.com profile] doodleleafus was taught in school health class to cough/sneeze into the crook of her elbow.

It's not hard. You just have to cultivate the habit. I either sneeze into my sleeve, or I sneeze away from everyone, and surfaces, without covering at all.

Good start

The spread of viruses is cut down even more if you cough into the bend of your elbow, just because the sleeve of your shirt/coat could still come into contact with surfaces. Trust me; this is what I specialize in.

As someone who is allergic to Atlanta, I sneeze into my elbow many times a day ;-)

That's the least of our problems. In my building, just about everyone in cubeville sits under an a/c vent of some sort. People come into work hacking up lung butter everywhere.. I don't think that sleeve sniffling will curtail this predicament.
