I had an instructor at a dojo once who used real weapons in training. It was for only very advanced students, but he insisted that only experience defending yourself against a real weapon would adequately train someone for a real-life situation. Not really the exact same logic as the article, but it reminded me of that guy.
Risk compensation is why I've often noted that if we want to have fewer deaths on the highways, airbags are not the answer.
A very sharp eight inch spike directly protruding from the steering wheel would probably work better. Are you liable to do something stupid when you know that every collision you get in is likely to be fatal?
innat the way it is with bikes? Don't want to die - don't crash... I think it helps keep the insurance rates down though (fewer folks around to collect).
Aren't we though?
