On Beauty: The Prelude

I've been writing an essay, well more of a rambling set of musings out of my head on the concept of Beauty and what it means to be beautiful and why is it important and all that. People often say that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and that isn't quite right. There are several types of beauty and the one that we hate to talk about but all know exists is the collective gestalt of what is beautiful which tends to promote a certain "look" that we know isn't realistic.

Date: 2005-07-22 03:04 am (UTC)Seems they've noticed that what passes for "beautiful" in women these days is a pretty narrow band and believe it shouldn't be so.I hope they manage to beat some sense into people, as, in my opinion, they are absolutely correct.
As the bit you linked to goes, I don't think the unattractive pictures are such because they're unattractive, it's because they don't actually look _real_. Eyes too big, parts too close to other parts...
