"new" toy: camera

So I finally purchased camera. Its a used Canon Powershot A540. Droped a 1GB storage card in it and I'm read to go.

I had forgotten how hard it was to try to shoot pictures in manual mode. Automatic mode definitely saves my ass.

Anyone else got this camera and can give me some hints on how to get the most out of it?
