One of my favorite toasts.
Oct. 26th, 2006 12:08 pm "To absent friends, lost loves, old gods, and the season of mists; and may each and every one of us always give the devil his due."
The above quote was originally from The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman.
By the way, the "season of mists" is a reference to Autumn from John Keats' (1795-1821) poem, "To Autumn."
'Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eaves run.'
Never forget that Neil pays homage to all the great writers and artists of the world through his works. Much of his lauded works find inspiration in other lauded works :-)
and now you know.
