That really sums up things for me. I have listened particularly to the arguments for Intelligent Design, and those who argue against seem to leap right to, "Are you retarded?" without even going into what the point of teaching science in school even is. Of course a great deal of it is to teach how things work, or what things are, but there is also a teaching of the process of solving problems, solidly, and being able to show how you arrived at that conclusion in a manner that others can duplicate *consistently*.
If someone wants to believe that coincidence is religiously relevant, and that God is in the gaps, then that's fine. But, the fact that you can't prove any of the claims of ID consistently is the point.
