Wow, that's an awesome marketing spin. If I had known the flu would do all that, I would have skipped getting my flu shot last week! ;-)

I could see for children and the elderly, but I honestly believe its counter-productive in the long run to get these type of shots or to take antibiotics (except after a surgery where the risk of infection can be high)

Unless one has some sort of issues with their immune system, a healthy young or middle-aged adult should be able to fight off the flu. You might be sick for a few days, but you won't die. :)

I have one word for otherwise decently healthy young-to-middle-aged folks who fear the flu:

Oscillococcinum (http://www.oscillo.com/). Now, I'm not hella big on most homeopathic stuff. But too many times both da Kitty and I have come home feeling like a train wreck, tossed a cap of this under our tongues, done likewise with the other two caps in the pack at six-hour intervals, and been right as rain in 18 hours. OK, not 100%, but well into recovery and needing of no further meds other than the usual Vitamin C.

They don't publish specs on flu shots like they do just about everything else. You don't get to research it. You take what the goobermint guesses you might possibly need this year, and that's that. They might or might not get it right. They might or might not screw the pooch. And do you think they test this new stuff atall? Noooooo... there's no time.

Nay, fsck that. It's no better than a Microsoft Windows hotfix.

Kids and old folk? Perhaps. I'm not one of them. I'm staying with what I know works and has been around since, according to Google, 1925.
