This is minor rant. I'm sure it'll offend some folks. that's good. If you are offended then perhaps you will make a cogent and rational response that will help the discussion and educate me. If not, then you are just noise and will most likely be ignored. :-)

It seems to me that nowadays, there is a growing trend towards "forced acceptance" of personal lifestyles. Everybody that exists on the fringes of society is banging on the walls wanting in. Now that in and of itself isn't a problem. I actually fall into a few of those categories with my hobbies right now. But what disturbs me now is that there seems to be a growing population of folks that want to be embraced as "normal" in society. Instead of a wanting to be treated equally they seem to want to be almost glorified.

I suspect that this is a natural backlash from being persecuted for so long but it seems to be to be the wrong response. When the minority wishes to be more important than the majority then its just a matter of each group jockeying to be on top. And the majority will almost always win. At least when the majority has all the power.

Anytime a minority seeks equality in a society, my mind immediately compares it to the African American Civil Rights movement. Blacks want to be accepted as equal in society. For the most part, they are the same as Whites. There is a lot of conjecture as to whether or not they are but science supports they are both essentially the same with some very very minor differences. Those differences do not harm each other so therefore they are irrelevant. The same can go for almost any other racial groups.

But then we get into a problem. Cause then all minority groups do the same thing. They stand up and say "We don't harm anyone else. We should be treated the same as everyone else." And society smacks them down. There are countless examples: Public Breastfeeding, Fat Acceptance, Transgendered Persons, Public BDSM types, Polyamorous, etc

Essentially all these groups are sub-groups of the standard population that just want to be themselves and not be persecuted for it. But they have been persectued for so long (and in some cases even prosecuted) that they are beginning to lash out. And some groups have formed powerful organizations to push their agenda on society in equal force to society pushing on you.

In some cases, I agree with them. In others I don't. So the big question for me and the one I put out for you is this:

Which groups do you feel are over-compensating and which groups do you feel aren't?
